I agree with the previous reviewer - this place as some definite food identity issues. It seems like they were trying to keep some of the menu items from the Olde Stage Station and mix it with Mexican - it does not really work. The group I was with all went the Mexican route. My husband and I thought it was just ok, however, there were others in our group who really enjoyed their food. We did enjoy the salsa on the table and I was told the mole was quite good. I would encourage the management to figure out the menu (personally I would like to see go back to the Olde Stage Station fare) and maybe drop the prices a bit. It was pricy (typically entrée was $15) for just so-so Mexican.

Granted, this was during the off season, and I believe Mojo Rosa's is a relatively new venture by the owners of the now-closed Olde Stage Station, but the menu contained possibly one of the most random collections of food I've ever seen. They call it a Mexican place because the walls are painted yellow, there is a sombrero on the wall, and the Mexican music playing (although it's drowned out by the sound of the TVs in the bar), but there is nothing close to authentic about the place. It would be okay if the food was good, but we were not impressed. We had nachos and a salad - both were mediocre at best. The fancy sign and phrase "authentic Mexican" led us in, but the food was just disappointing. They need to fix their cuisine identity issue. They have Mexican, pizza, pasta, pot roast, fried chicken - essentially anything you can imagine, but it's a bit strange. Maybe there are just a lot of regular customers they didn't want to disappoint.

Watched a packer game here. Great vibe, great people and good drink prices. Great place to catch a game and a drink.

Went there to watch the Brewer game. Nice casual setting. You get an engraved name plate if you complete their beer challenge of 99 unique beers.

Recently went to this establishment for some Mexican cuisine with my girlfriend. The theme was not consistent with the bar seeming like an entirely different entity from that of the restaurant. The bar was reminiscent of a typical bar while the restaurant was littered with Mexican chackies. We were the only individuals in the restaurant at the time and they appeared to be training a new, young server who was working there while home from college during the tourist season of Door County. The veteran server supervising the newbie should have caught the rookie mistakes he was making when taking our order, both of which were enchiladas. I ordered the spicier variety while my girlfriend requested the mildest. However, when our order arrived, my girlfriend's was as spicy as my own and they seemed reluctant to accommodate. Furthermore, considering we were the only ones in the restaurant it shouldn't take upwards of 45 minutes to get our food. The icing on the cake was that we got our nachos 5 minutes before the food arrived. The food was nothing to write home about but the service was atrocious

The kitchen is open late. For that reason it gets two stars. The food is ridiculously expensive. $15 for the worst burrito I've ever had. $25+ pizzas My wife liked her chicken quite a bit. It's good for an expensive and mediocre late night bite

The food was below mediocre: runny chile rellenos and tostadas fried in oil that wasn't nearly hot enough. Rice and beans were not served with the meal and we had to request tortillas to go with the chile rellenos? We were overcharged: total should have been $24 and somehow we were charged $33. We were so disgusted with the place at that point that we didn't even argue it. Service was awful, I went up to the bar to request chips and salsa and a margarita because it had been so long since we saw our server. The only saving grace was that margaritas were only $2 today. Yuck. I would never go here again. Please avoid. Wait until you get home to eat Mexican. Door County is not the place for it!

High expectations from previous reviews. Did not live up. Great waiter brought drinks and kids meals pronto. Adults waited an unreasonable amount of time for meals. Food was fair..nothing to rave about.

Speaking just on the bar experience, Mojo is great. I have been seeing the same bartenders for years and they are awesome. Accommodating and easy to talk to. Drinks are good and well priced. We have had a few pizzas from Mojo and they are always good. They have a pool table, plenty of TV's, darts, and a jukebox. There is also an outdoor patio. We always find ourselves at Mojo a few times whenever we are in Door County.

Had dinner at this place on a Thursday night. We had a burrito and the whitefish tacos which the waiter said were the highlights on the menu. The food was just okay. As others reported, don't go here expecting authentic Mexican food. This place is better for appetizers and drinks as it had a huge selection of beers to choose from. It is open late so it's a great late night spot while in the town.

Make no mistake, like we did, this is a bar not a Mexican "restaurant". Service was good but the food was very sub-par. The meatballs were so spicy hot I could not finish them. Server said, in a joking manner, that this was what I should expect for eating at a Mexican restaurant. Sorry, but of all the Mex food I have ever had, no chipotle sauce was ever this spicy hot. Even my friend who was born in Mexico was very taken back by the poor quality food. No second chances with this place.

This is a bar- please do not go here if you are hungry. It takes a lot for me to turn down Mexican. I have eaten at places with questionable health code ratings because the food was Mexican- I love it that much. I have no idea what this place serves but even in northern WI there is no way this passes as Mexican. The chimichanga was recommended by staff (??why??) and was quite possibly the most disgusting thing I ever tasted. It tasted like some kind of hot pocket microwaved mess that had nothing on it. The rice was mush and tasted nothing like Spanish rice. The beans bland as the can they prob came from. Let me be clear- I have NEVER left mexican food behind. I couldn't make myself eat this food and I was starving. Plus side- great and fun bar atmosphere. The margaritas were superhero strong. In fact, I can't even remember what other food was ordered because 1) empty stomach & 2) margarita. Which proves my point- even buzzed I couldn't eat the food...

For running around and serving a table of 15, I gotta say, the waitstaff was great. This one lonely star was for the very, extremely sub-par food. NOTHING tasted fresh or authentic. Both the Mexican and American food was blah. My "award-winning" chili was a pureed spicy glop -- thankfully I only ordered the cup for $2.75. The all-you-can-eat wings ($6) were frozen and re-heated. The sauce was nothing to get excited about nor were their weak margaritas. The worst of all were the nachos for a whopping $10 -- they arrived in a bowl (Why in a bowl?!) and on first bite, the nachos were soggy and falling apart. I've never seen soggy nachos on the top of the pile. Grossness. The mole chicken....wow, I won't even say how tasteless it was... Their specialty meals were $14-$20. If you can mess up a thing as basic as nachos for $10, why would anyone consider a more expensive meal? Why can't restaurants in Door County be delicious at an affordable price? Why is that so hard?

not real mexican food! this food stuck! the steak burrito was horrible. and the tacos were cold. don't come here! avoid this place! overpriced! $30 for 3 plates. overpriced! food was not tasty at all.

Stopped here for lunch on a snowy Friday afternoon and was pleasantly surprised! Great food and superb service. The owner was super friendly and made us feel welcome, like she'd known us for years. Everything is made from scratch. Enchiladas had just the right amount of "kick" to them with the verde salsa.

I love all the food they serve. Great Mexican AND great perch! Excellent pizzas (my daughters favorite). And the Mojitos...very refreshing! Did I mention the great live music? Between the open mic night (Friday) and the seasonal outdoor backyard beer garden, they have the live music scene in Egg Harbor covered well. Thanks Kim & Cambria!

After my mini winery tour, the bf and I were starving. We came here on a suggestion. I love the Mexican/bar/saloon vibe of this place. When we stopped by, we ate our Mexican fare in the bar. Mojo Rosa's had a great special too. For $6, you got two tamales and soup/chili. The special was the perfect amount of food for the perfect price. Both of us had the chili. It's a Oaxacan chili that was simply amazing. It had a delicious spicy bite with heat, but a slow, lingering one. It's one of those chilis that you remember and crave. The chicken tamales were delicious too. Everything is homemade by the chef who wanted to bring authentic Oaxacan cooking to Door County. Another great plus about this place is that it's voluntarily smoke free. It felt great walking in and out of a bar with the hover of cigarette smoke. Mojo Rosa's is a great restaurant in Door County where you can get excellent Mexican food, wonderful service, and a smoke free dining experience.

If I could give zero stars I would. Stopped in for some drinks and food the day before Pumpkin Patch festival. The bartender was probably one of the rudest, snottiest people I have met. One person in our group asked if there was an ATM nearby and he snapped at us that "this isn't Chicago!!" apparently assuming we were from Illinois???? (We're all from WI, not that it matters) We each got one drink and left without ordering food as he never checked on us once to see how we were doing or if we needed anything. Will not be going back. Absolutely horrible customer service.

Very happy with the food... got a simple beef burrito, wasn't to keen on paying the 14 bucks for one but it was absolutely worth it. I'm a big guy and I put it away in my tummy and I was full. Service was good for mid day. I'd recommend this place

We had dinner here which was a bad idea, this is more of a bar atmosphere. Good place to get buzzed, play pool, watch a game. Food wasn't great, maybe we got the wrong things. I had a taco, simple (meat, onion, cilantro) and good...hard to mess up. Also had a chicken enchilada which was served in red sauce I assumed to be salsa....nope...it was marinara sauce. Not sure how y'all roll, but marinara sauce on my enchilada es no frio...is not cool. I also had a beef flauta which was okay, but was doused in nacho cheese sauce. Last I had a tamale, flavorless and dry. Crumbled way too easily. Drinks were good...come here to drink and eat some low grade bar food. When you play pool, try not to hit the people eating at the dinner tables tightly surrounding the billiards...it gets awkward. Positives: Guacamole is good, service too.

I came in here with my friends to watch the pre-season Packer game last week. I thought to myself, "a bar that serves touchdown shots and has many different micro brews available? In." Sadly, that was not enough to overcome the issues. Lets start with service. It seemed that the restaurant forgot all about the Packer game. There was not nearly enough staff available to take care of all the patrons. Our table of 6 waited about 10 minutes to get our beers. And the poor guys in the kitchen? Well, it seemed that they never worked a rush before. I am not knocking our waitress, she was doing the best she could with what she had, but man. Our bottles were empty for around 10 minutes before we saw her again. But she had most of the place to cover. Then there's the food. I had a shredded beef chimichanga. Usually, shredded beef, cheese, and a fried tortilla are a win win win. Not so at this place. It was bland bland bland. The shredded beef was dry. It didn't seem to be marinated in anything and had no flavor. There was a decent amount of cheese and the shell seemed like it was overcooked almost. The rice and beans were passable and were the best thing on my plate. My poor friend had the misfortune of ordering steak fajitas. I feel the best part of fajitas is when they are brought out on a sizzling plate making the whole place smell good. There was no sizzle at all. In fact, his was cold. And bland. And he only received 2 tortillas for his whole plate of food. I suddenly felt like I was the winner. Now the rest of my friends, they all had broasted chicken.... Which was actually fairly good. But when a place advertises as a Mexican restaurant they better be able to cook Mexican food. I would give the place one star, but because they have a great beer selection (for the north woods) I am bumping it up one.

The food was good and definitely plentiful. The service was alright. I think they were more leaving us alone versus checking up every five minutes because there were only two of us. We had the nachos and split an entree which was more than enough for two. I would have to say that it was definitely a bar with a bit of a restaurant attached, but that's not a bad thing. The menu choices were good and they did have an ala cart sections where you could get just a taco or a large choice of different things. Would recommend

It's not often I see an update to a review on Yelp upgrade the rating, but here I shall... Since I was here a few years ago, I have ventured back several times and have found the objections that I had previously have been remedied. As a result of that my recent experiences have all been pleasant and tasty, which has made me a frequent visitor. Summarizing the positives from my earlier review... Don't expect this to be a straight-up Mexican restaurant because it doesn't pretend to be one (there are others in DC that you can try). It's a very eclectic menu yet what they offer is all very well prepared and the atmosphere is especially comfortable. Their cocktails are good and they have a huge beer selection.

Came in on a Tuesday afternoon during the winter. It was one of the few (if not the only) place open. We had the $2 taco (pulled beef, pulled chicken, carnitas) and margarita special. The food and drinks were great. The super-friendly bartender gave us some insights and things to check out during our stay in Door County. We told him we were visiting wineries next and he went the extra mile by calling a few of his friends at the nearby wineries to see if they were open.

To me, this is a confused restaurant. I got mexican food vibes from the margarita signs posted everywhere, but it also tried to be a typical American bar and grill. Really not much table seating (or room for that matter) inside and outside; many more chairs in the bar area. Service was good as our waitress refilled the drinks often and had some good drink suggestions. The burger was cooked right while the fries were a tad soggy. Overall, pretty decent food and good helpings. But, forgo this place if you have a family or want to hear people at your table during busier hours.

This place was a surprisingly good find while up in Door County for a few days. The food was excellent, especially the veggie tacos (possibly the best veggie tacos I've ever had!) Service was excellent, and although I didn't order anything to drink other than water, their beer and cocktail menu was pretty extensive with what looked to be local brews. I hope this place does well, even during the off season. Thanks for the great meal!

I broke of my cardinal rules about restaurants when I went to Mexican place in an area known for pub food and fish boils. Should I be surprised that the food was bad? I had a steak burrito and they poured the salsa over the outside on top of the burrito so you could not pick it up without getting salsa over you. The steak was very chewy and I didn't finish the meal. That being said, the servers are friendly and the drinks were good. Probably a good place to hit for drinks to get away for the kids.

I've been reading reviews and am not sure what people mean by "real Mexican." I'm pretty sure that the lady that developed the menu here is from Mexico... With that being said my favorite dish is the beef burrito with the mole sauce. Yummy. I also love the beer selection and the Moscow Mules! I will sure have to make this a regular stop on my DC excursions. I started this review on my phone and because I cannot post right away I had to go back to the computer to finish. Before pushing post I read this tasty piece and had some things to add... "My husband and I have been going to Mojo Rosa's for almost 7 years...multiple times per Summer and sometimes even twice in one weekend...I can tell you that Saturday, September 1, 2012 marks our last visit." and so on... I happen to have been sitting at the bar when this all went down. I am from Milwaukee and was with my girlfriend visiting her cousin who works at Mojo Rosas. We were right next to this table. This lady seemed to feel pretty entitled " I asked if she could get Kim (owner), once she saw who I was and who my husband was, she would make it right." even when she " know(s) they are busy" "I told her for the last time that I would not be paying for the pizza (again...entitled)and I returned to my table, she stomped over and said you owe $2.00 for the Pepsi..." wouldn't you be upset if someone told you how they were going to run your buisiness?? "so, I put the $2.00 on the table and my husband and I left and enjoyed a delicious serving of custard from Not Licked Yet..." Because Not Licked Yet is inexpensive....??? "Not to even get started on their prices - How can you go into a Mexican restaurant and be told there is no chorizo, steak, flour tortillas for tacos, or Mexican dessert?" If you look online at mojorosas-doorcounty.com you will see that they have chorizo, steak and flour tortillas... To add to this, I'll let you know that this table made the hostess cry... BOOOOOO Bullys!

It's probably impossible to mess up fish tacos. I found it strange that they made me do the work in assembling them (whole fish filet directly on the plate, tortillas rolled up in paper, shredded lettuce in a pile), but they were still decent. The Mojitos and Margaritas were good. It's hard for me to be too disappointed considering it was a beautiful, balmy afternoon on the last day of a refreshing weekend away from Chicago, but I don't feel many stars are in order.

Meh. It's very out of character for me to speak poorly of ANY Mexican food, but Mojo Rosa's was pretty bland, both food-wise and ambiance-wise. Pros: Coloring sheets, Waitresses who don't frown upon 22-year-olds asking for coloring sheets and crayons, Strong margaritas Cons: Food with little to no flavor, Expensive, A ethnically-confused menu that runs the gamut from broasted chicken to black & blue burgers to burritos

While we had read the mediocre reviews prior to going, I brought my wife and young, taco loving kids anyways. Mistake. Mojo Rosa's has some things going for it, in that, they are one of the few Mexican restaurants in Door County. The atmosphere is decent, and generally family friendly. The service was good. The price points are about right. The problem is the food. It's crappy. None of us enjoyed our food. It was bland, and packed with meat, which is not a good thing. My kids love tacos .. hated these, on their kids menu of all places. Seriously, I hope Mojo Rosa's is reading this, as you can spin Mexican food for adults, and give it an odd twist, and maybe they'll like it. But, generally, kids have a low tolerance for that, and will leave their food uneaten. I really wanted to like Mojo Rosa's, and hope they can tune their recipes so people can enjoy one of the few Mexican places in Door County.

Lunch review--very good service. We sat outside and they have a decent patio. Food came quickly and was delightful. With the exception of the carne asada which needed to be more tender or better marinated because it was tough. Other dishes were great, especially the sauce on the seafood enchiladas...a kind of creamy salsa verde goodness. It would be fun to return in the evening at some point.

I'll start off with what they did best--excellent sangrias. Yum. I suppose it might depend on who you have behind the bar, but this lady served them up good. We sat at the bar and right away saw that they had a special for buy one taco plate, get the second free. That seemed like too good of a deal to pass up. I looked the menu over for appetizers (we were hungry and ready to spend money), but alas, all they had were chips and salsa which were so so. For my taco plate I ordered three flour tortilla tacos: one steak, one chorizo, and one beef. The bartenders response: don't hate me (how could I, I'm sure it's not her fault) but we don't make tacos with flour tortillas and we're out of steak and chorizo. Hmm...okay...two beef tacos and one chicken. My wife ordered all chicken. When they came out it seemed like the meat was put in a litte too watery or maybe they sat for a minute, because the corn shells immediately fell apart. Beef was okay--a little difficult to eat. Chicken was surprisingly tasty. We asked for cheese with tacos, and had to ask a second time as it did not come with meal as asked for. Dessert: Asked if they had flan--nope....deep fried ice cream--nope...so no real Mexican desserts. Waitress was friendly enough, but it seems like the menu and preparation need some work. How can you go into a Mexican restaurant and be told there is no chorizo, steak, flour tortillas for tacos, or Mexican dessert? A couple more of those yummy sangrias, and I might not have cared.

The Mexican look of the exterior belays the dull, old 70's look of the interior. Our review is common to others: Mexican/bar food identity crisis. My beef taco was horrible. It was more like German chipped beef and raw onions on a tortilla. None of the Mexican dinners my three daughters and wife had were even close to authentic and were prepared poorly. One daughter had chicken dumpling soup she said was very good. One daughters boyfriend had a burger he said was good. We give two stars for the American fare and the friendly service...but just barely got the second star.

I think 2 1/2 stars is what this place deserves. It wasn't horrible and it wasn't great but a little confused on what it really is. At first I walked up to it thinking it was gonna be a Mexican restaurant and when I got in it looked like basically a bar from 1979 in the transition of decorating during the 80's. First was served by the bartender then finally got a waiter who wasn't bad. Not much of a huge menu to choose from and maybe a couple steps over Taco Bell without the drive thru. Probably a good place to get some margaritas and a Medelo beer but don't expect Rick Bayless to serve you.

We've eaten here in the past before it was Mojo Rosa's and stopped in for cocktails and chips while staying in Egg Harbor. While the outside decor reflects a Mexican theme, from the inside it's hard to tell what the cuisine is. Other than new paint in the walls, it looks exactly the way it did before (U shaped bar, separate restaurant area). No blended drinks are available which is a little puzzling for a Mexican themed restaurant / bar. The strawberry margarita on the rocks was just ok and my Bacardi Limon and Coke was mixed well. We asked for chips and salsa. The salsa was kind of a runny pico de gallo and while it didn't look very appetizing, was actually pretty good. It was served in a small plastic cup which made it a little difficult to scoop out with the chips. As with most bars, the choice of TV entertainment was a little strange. We were watching Tour De France highlights from 2001. To be fair, this was on Versus so I assume the channel was leftover from the Stanley Cup playoffs. On request. the bartender found something more entertaining. While we sat at the bar it looked like most people were opting for the pizza and I suspect that next time we visit the decor will have changed to whatever is popular at the time (Irish Pub?).

While up in Door County, we wanted some Mexican food and were driving through Egg Harbor on a Friday in August, and thought we would give Mojo Rosa's a try for lunch. Upon arriving the place was very quiet, no -one at the bar to greet you and only two tables were being used. It took several minutes just for someone to notice that we were there. Once seated, we looked at the menu and saw the prices. A burrito was just a burrito, a taco was just a taco, nothing else, and these were the dinners. They even charged for rice. My order was an enchilada and that is all I got, it was not very tasty and rather expensive. I can get twice the meal and for more taste in a big city.

Whenever I go up to Door County with my family, we somehow always end up here. You'd expect from their signage and name that Mojo Rosa's was a Mexican restaurant. While they do have chips and salsa on the table and offer tacos, enchiladas, and tamales, you really should know that this is a bar and they offer typical bar food. They have great cheese curds, jalapeno poppers, burgers, and more. The staff and clientele are friendly. Both Bears and Packers fans are welcome to watch respective games on their two tv screens. We like to come for the SuperBowl if we're in the area over New Year's.

Went there to watch the Brewer game. Nice casual setting. You get an engraved name plate if you complete their beer challenge of 99 unique beers.

We love this place! Great for families or just a young couple trying to have a few too many drinks on vacation :-) the pizza is delicious, service is great, and we love the atmosphere. We go to Mojos almost daily whenever we are in Egg Harbor! Love.

  • B B.
